WINDMILL Easel
The History of the WINDMILL Easel
First, and foremost, I am an artist. However, because of my painting technique, I was often a frustrated artist.
To facilitate my most productive brush and palette knife strokes, I frequently repositioned my artwork on the easel either 90 or 180 degrees. A secondary reason for moving the artwork was that it allowed me to steer clear of the traditional canvas holders on standard easels, thereby providing unobstructed access to the entire canvas; from the outer-most sides, to the canvas edges. As expected this required a delicate balancing act, many times resulting in paint on myself or something else, damage to the canvas surface, or dropping the canvas off the easel.
I went from frustration to obsession. I knew I had to find a way to solve the issues associated with repositioning a wet canvas. I placed my painting on the back burner as I went in search of an answer. Ten years later the WINDMILL easel became a reality.
Out of this need for a better way, I developed an easel that not only addressed my initial concerns, but some other critical ones as well. Specifically, areas such as fatigue or personal physical challenges that prevented artists from enjoying the freedom to paint for long sessions became immediate beneficiaries of this design.
My primary goal had been to develop an easel that could securely hold an artwork in place while not only adjusting the easel vertically and/or horizontally, but also while adjusting it to any position within a 360 degree rotation. I designed the Artists Advantage, Inc. WINDMILL easel to accomplish that goal. It worked out even better than I had hoped. The WINDMILL Easel, by its shear design, offers greater accessibility and flexibility for the artist. Truly, this easel is revolutionary in providing artists a new dimension in creativity.
